Basically, there are two types of non-Muslim marriages:
- Without Licence
Marriage without licence is the standard procedure for couples who meet all marriage requirements without requiring special approval.
- Age requirement: Both parties must be 21 years and above
- Marital status: Both parties must be single or widowed
- With Licence
Licensed marriage refers to situations where couples must obtain special approval (licence) before the marriage can be registered due to certain circumstances under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 [Act 164].
